JOB-A-PALOOZA is a yearly event hosted by LIFEDesigns and Stonebelt to help individuals with disabilities get a closer look into employment paths with local employers. In 2019, Duke Energy grant funded the first ever Job-A-Palooza in Bloomington. Over 20 local employers came to a one day event at The Warehouse in Bloomington and each set up a table with multiple job tasks. Individuals with disabilities could try actual job tasks from each of the employers and ask questions about employment. Individuals were also able to practice their interview skills by completing a mock interview with the recruiters from LIFEDesigns and Stonebelt.
In 2020, the planning team decided to go VIRTUAL to keep everyone safe during the pandemic. 15 employers agree to create videos highlighting job tasks and various employment opportunities within their business. Every Wednesday in October (National Disability Awareness Month) from 1-2:30 3-4 local business’s premiered their Job-A-Palooza Videos and participated in Question and Answer time afterwards, giving individuals with disabilities a chance to learn more about different employment paths.
