LIFEDesigns receives funding for Wheelchair Accessible Van

LIFEDesigns purchased a wheelchair accessible transport van last fall, thanks to funding received from the City of Bloomington’s Jack Hopkins Social Services Fund, Smithville Charitable Foundation, and Bloomington’s Sunrise Rotary Club. This van now provides access to the community for about 140 people living in and around Monroe County. We expect this van will last for about 8 to 10 years, and over that time will meet the needs of over 180 people.

LIFEDesigns supports our customers to use public transportation when it is available to them, however people who live in rural areas, and want to travel at times or to locations where accessible transportation is not available are able to use this van to get where they need to go. This van has helped people get to work on time, visit family that lives out of town, and have access to community amenities they would not have otherwise been able to travel to.

Thank you so much to our grantors for this vehicle that has really made a difference in so many people’s lives!

Crawford Apartments Award

Lt. Gov. Aff. Housing Award 2014
Crawford Apartments Receives Award from Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann

On October 1st, Crawford Apartments was awarded the Lt. Governor’s Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing and Community Development. The award is highly distinguished, and LIFEDesigns was truly honored to accept this award with partner Shalom Community Center in recognition of their joint effort in Crawford Apartments.

The award recognizes organizations that have made an exceptional contribution to community development and affordable housing in Indiana. The awards spotlight developments that best provide affordable options in rental units for those Hoosiers who are traditionally underserved. Winning entries demonstrate a commitment to affordable housing as well as innovation and a spirit of cooperation.

Crawford Apartments are permanent affordable housing units for our most vulnerable community members.  Crawford has maintained a 100% stay rate over the past 6 months, which is extremely rare for this type of housing. Crawford supports its occupants by providing employment counseling, training and placement, continuing education, counseling, case management, addiction counseling and support, and nutrition and wellness education.

THIS Sunday, April 13, 2014  –  1:00 pm

We are putting together a LIFEDesigns team to participate in the Homeward Bound walk on Sunday, April 13 at 1pm. We are recruiting staff, customers, Board members, donors, and volunteers to walk with us during the upcoming Homeward Bound walk.  Everyone who signs up for the LIFEDesigns Team will get a FREE LIFEDesigns t-shirt in beautiful tangerine (NEW shirts!). We want to show the world a sea of orange as evidence of the support our agency has from all these groups. The walk will begin at The Waldron, Hill and Buskirk Park (Third Street Park). Registration and pre-walk entertainment will begin at noon. This is a family and pet friendly event so feel free to bring everyone with you!

To register
, go to, click Register Today, click Join an Existing Team, choose LIFEDesigns in the drop down box where is says Select Team, then enter your information. There is no cost to register for the event, but if you donate $20 by April 10, you will receive a t-shirt (in addition to the tangerine LIFEDesigns shirt) from the Homeward Bound crew. As this is a fundraiser, we encourage you to collect donations for the event. This $20 donation is a great start towards supporting the benefiting agencies – which includes LIFEDesigns this year!
